BLOSSOM!, The National Cherry Blossom Festival Design Challenge is an amateur graphic design contest.
HERE'S HOW TO ENTER OR VOTE:
1/ REGISTER. You must create an account on the Contest site to submit a graphic design or to vote for an entry.
2/ ENTER. Submit your graphic design. Upload it in JPG, GIF, or PNG format.
3/ VOTE. Votes will be cast by visitors to the website. The top 20 entries will advance to the final "People's Choice" voting round that will occur live at the National Cherry Blossom's Festival's kick-off event, Family Day on Saturday, March 27, 2010 in Washington, DC!
4/ HELP to Promote the Contest and Promote Yourself. Use the share tools to post your entry to your networks like Facebook and Twitter. Encourage your graphic designer friends to enter, and your friends and family to vote for your entry to increase your chance of advancing to the finals!
The Contest will have TWO winners. One graphic design will be awarded the "Judges' Prize," a $5,000 tuition prize to Westwood College School of Design, made possible by Shiseido. The Judges' Winner will be selected by a panel of design professionals and artists (the Judges) assembled by the National Cherry Blossom Festival. A second graphic design will be awarded the "People's Choice Prize" and will be selected by public voting on this site. The Peopl'es Choice winner will receive a $250 cash prize.
Both winners will be announced, be invited to, and have their graphic designs displayed at Cherry Blast on Friday evening, April 2, 2010 in Washington, DC. Cherry Blast is an official event of the National Cherry Blossom Festival and showcases visual and performance artists from the metro-DC area. http://www.nationalcherryblossomfestival.org/cherryblast

Before entering the Contest, please review this entire section carefully to ensure that you fulfill all the requirements set forth to be eligible to win the Contest prizes. Also review the Prize section on the site so you are aware of the academic requirements to use the Judges' Prize.
Before beginning your graphic design, read the Contest Theme above and note that the following three criteria will be weighed equally by the Judges as they evaluate submissions: 1/ creativity; 2/ interpretation of theme; and 3/ excellence of execution.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
1/ You must submit your original graphic design via this website by Friday, March 26, 2010 at 6:00 pm EST.
2/ You are 18 years of age or older and have a high school diploma or a GED.
3/ You live in the Metropolitan Washington, DC area and as proof, can provide a valid picture ID with your address. The Contest defines the Metropolitan Washington, DC area as the District of Columbia; Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, Frederick, Howard, Montgomery, Prince George's and St. Mary's counties in Maryland; Arlington, Clarke, Fairfax, Fauquier, Loudoun, Prince William, Spotsylvania, Stafford, and Warren counties in Virginia; and the independent cities, also in Virginia, of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Fredericksburg, Manassas, and Manassas Park.
4/ You do not have an undergraduate or graduate design degree.
5/ You are not presently and have never been a professional designer.
6/ You are the sole creator of the graphic design you are submitting.
7/ By entering, the National Cherry Blossom Festival reserves the right to use your submission/graphic design for Contest and Festival promotional purposes. No additional compensation will be awarded to any entrant whose submission is used for National Cherry Blossom Festival or Contest promotional purposes.
8/ If you win the Judges' Prize, Shiseido reserves the right to use your submission/graphic design for promotional purposes and on product packaging. No additional compensation will be awarded to the Judge's Prize winner in conjunction with Shiseido promotional or packaging uses.
9/ Prize winners may be required to sign and return an affidavit of publicity and promotional release.
10/ You are not presently and have never been a student at, or a faculty member or employee of Westwood College, and are not a family member of a Westwood College faculty member or employee.
11/ You are not presently and have never been an employee or board member of Shiseido, and are not a family member of an employee or board member of Shiseido.
12/ You are not presently and have never been an employee or board member of the National Cherry Blossom Festival or the Downtown DC Business Improvement District, and are not a family member of a National Cherry Blossom Festival or Downtown DC Business Improvement District employee or board member.
